Guidelines

The Earth Now online preview http://online.nmartmuseum.org/earthnow, and upcoming exhibition of nearly 100 photographs at the NM Museum of Art, examine how photographers use their works of art to highlight environmental issues.

Participants in the My World, My Vision contest are encouraged to explore these same issues through their photography:

  1. Do I have a feeling of belonging and a connection to the land under my feet?
  2. How do people try to control nature or harness its power, and what are the benefits and consequences of these actions?
  3. How do we interact with wildlife, and what happens when our needs come into conflict with theirs?
  4. How can I capture what I see in my environment through a photo?
  5. What makes me stop and notice a tree, a landscape, clouds, water, rocks, etc.?

The environment we live in is complex and it includes natural and manmade features. For the My World, My Vision photography contest, students should use their imagination to capture what makes them stop and notice our unique New Mexico environment.
