Chester Leich was born in Evansville, Indiana and educated in American, German, and Swiss schools. He was also a student at Columbia University and the Art Students League, and from 1910 to 1915 he both worked and studied art in Italy and Germany. Leich traveled widely in the Southwest, doing a number of paintings and dry point and other etchings of Southwestern subjects.
